Take an interactive and educational family holiday – get to know your surroundings and truly immerse yourself in the town's history.
Dundee – a pretty town with a rustic appeal – lies in the valley of the magnificent Biggarsberg Mountain range. The first shots of the Anglo Boer War were fired at Talana, a hill on the outskirts of the town. Talana Museum, built on the battlefields, pays tribute to the series of legendary and bloody battles fought between British colonists, isiZulus and the Boers, which reached a final conclusion in 1902.
Make Battlefields Country Lodge your vantage point from where you can explore your surroundings. The battle sites of Isandlwana, Rorke’s Drift and the Blood River Monument are places of interests to visit if you're a family of history boffins - beneficial especially to kids in high school as this is an education that extends past the classroom.
If the history doesn't interest you, there are a host of activities for you and your family to take part in. For the little ones, the lodge has an on-site jungle gym, otherwise, all of you can enjoy a day out on the dam in a paddle boat.
Outdoorsy families can cycle, hike and bird-watch in the picturesque hills and valleys.
Comfortable lodgings are conveniently located near to the historic battlefield sites, monument and museum. The rooms are air-conditioned and ensuite, with beautiful views over the dams and mountains.
Daily breakfast is served at their Pizzeria and Fish restaurant; also suitable for family-friendly lunches and dinners, and meals which can be tailor-made according to dietary requirements. Alternatively, there is a kitchen on-site, but there is no stove for reheating food or making a full meal.
You can expect spectacular views of the manicured gardens, cropped lawns and surroundings from the comfort of your room. You can also look forward to curious game (mainly zebra) paying a visit to your doorstep.
